Item description:

See scan - perfect condition. This is so far just ONE piece known to exist with this scarce usage. The postcard was mailed from the German / Bulgarian seaplane / hydroplane unit in Varna. The usage of the German Military cachet mark of this seaplane unit is extremely scarce, since the base was under german Commandment just for several months before it was turned to the Bulgarian Army. So far this is the only such example known to exist. The aerophilately and postal history significance of this piece is huge, since it also gives a clear view on what the postal censor regulations at this time were. Furthermore, this item is even scarcer on the way it was used. It was mailed from Varna to another Bulgarian town, i.e. it was an internal postal route, but regulations said that all foreign postal items should go to one of the German postal stations for censoring. Thus the card had to go to the occupied Serbian town of Nisch, where it was censored both by the Bulgarian postal censor authorities and also by the German postal station in Nish. There is a German fieldpost K.D. Feldpoststation 187 / FP 187 postmark, as well as a German Geprueft Nisch linear cachet in blue. Later on the card was censored by the Bulgarian postal authorities in Nisch, as it was returning actually back to Bulgaria to reach its original destination in Sliven (not more than 200 miles from Varna!!!). The postcard is originally tied by the already mentioned scarce Kaiserliche Marine Seeflugstation Bulgarien - Briefstempel cachet in violet color. Only about 8 or so sea airplanes were based in this seaplane base and the staff was actually extremely small. One can imagine how scarce it is to find such a postal item from this place. For me this is a true gem of world's aviation history. Finally the card is canceled by the receiving postmark of Sliven, where the actual destination was. ONE OF A KIND PIECE.
